Instead of throwing them away, why not give them a new lease of life? Upcycling is a creative and sustainable way to transform an old item into something practical and useful. In this post, we’ll explore three innovative ways to repurpose your tie into useful and stylish accessories.

Customize your tie and give it a new use. Reuse it or donate it. Anything goes, except throwing it away.

Guitar or Bass Strap

If you’re a musician or know someone who plays guitar or bass, an old tie can be turned into a custom strap. This project is a clever way to repurpose and add a personal touch to your musical instrument.

To get started, you'll need an old tie, a ruler, fabric scissors, strap adjustment rings, and a needle and thread or a sewing machine.

First, cut the thin end of the tie into a 1.5-inch piece. This piece will be used to install the adjuster rings. Insert the adjuster ring through the cut. With the back side facing up, fold the cut end down to hold the ring in place. Sew the fold with a running stitch to ensure the ring is secure.

Then, use the remaining end and slide the end through the tri-glide. Feed the end of the tie through the slide and around the center of the tri-glide. Fold the cut end down to finish the strap. Finally, create slits on each end to attach the strap to your instrument. Make sure the slits are adjusted for a secure fit. With that, your new guitar or bass strap is ready to use!

Cell Phone Case

Turning a tie into a phone case is a practical and stylish way to repurpose an old accessory. This project provides an efficient and personalized storage solution for your phone.

For this project, you will need a tie, a ruler, fabric scissors, a large button (about 1 inch in diameter), a needle and thread or a sewing machine, and rubber bands or a 1-inch piece of elastic.

Start by cutting a 5-inch piece. Set aside the thinner part for the final finishing of the case. With the back side facing up, fold it down 1/2-inch and sew it in place to form the base of the pocket.

Then, turn the case right side out and sew a large button about 1/2 inch below the sewn edge. This button will act as the lid of the case. Then, fold the bottom up about 1.5 inches and sew the left and right edges together to form a pocket. The button should be front and center of this pocket.

Finally, sew the elastic bands to the inside edge of the tie tip. The tie tip will now act as a top flap for the case, with the elastic band acting as a fastener. Flip the case over and snap the tip into place to secure your phone. Adjust the sizes as needed to ensure a perfect fit.

Glasses Case

Turning a tie into a glasses case is a simple and creative way to repurpose an old accessory, offering a practical solution for storing your glasses safely and stylishly.

For this project, you will need a tie, a ruler, fabric scissors, a button or Velcro, and a needle and thread or a sewing machine. Start by cutting the tie into a 6.5-inch piece from the end of the tip. This piece will be used to create the glasses case.

Add a buttonhole to the end of the tie, making a slit large enough to accommodate the button or Velcro. Place the button or Velcro about 1/2 inch from the cut edge and sew in place. With the wrong side of the tie facing up, make a 1/2 inch fold down from the final cut. Then, fold the bottom of the tie up about 2.5 inches and sew the left and right edges together to form a pocket. The button or Velcro should be sewn to the front and inside of the holder to create a secure closure for the case.

Benefits of Reuse

Reusing ties offers a number of benefits, both for the environment and for your creativity. Firstly, reusing reduces waste and promotes sustainable practices, helping to reduce the environmental impact associated with discarding items. Additionally, transforming an old tie into a new accessory is a great way to exercise your creativity and create personalized and unique items.

Upcycling projects not only help protect the environment, but they can also save money and add value to the items we already own. These projects are a fun and innovative way to give new life to old accessories, providing practical and creative solutions for your everyday life.

Give Your Tie a New Life

Turning an old tie into new, useful items is a great way to combine creativity and sustainability. Whether you’re creating a guitar strap, a phone case, or a glasses case, you’re making the most of what you already have and contributing to a more sustainable world.

By following the steps outlined and applying the tips provided, you can reuse your tie in a practical and stylish way. Don’t let your old ties become just another forgotten item in your closet. Try these ideas and discover the creative potential they offer. With a little effort and imagination, you can transform old items into modern and functional accessories, making the most of what you already have.

Check out other interesting facts about recycling clicking here.
Learn how to make art by recycling, Click here.

Summary

Guitar or Bass Strap

Cell Phone Case

Glasses Case

Benefits of Reuse

Give Your Tie a New Life

Gravata, embora sejam um acessório clássico e elegante, podem eventualmente sair de moda ou ficar esquecidas no fundo do armário.
